Andrew Simpson (sailor)

Andrew James Simpson, OBE ( born December 17, 1976 in Chertsey, † May 9, 2013 in the Bay of San Francisco, United States) was a British sailor. As an Olympic gold medalist and world champion, he was one of the most successful British sailors.

Career

At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing Simpson won a gold medal with his partner Iain Percy in the Star class. At the 2012 Summer Olympics in the UK both won in the same boat class a silver medal. In between, she won the Star boat in Rio de Janeiro, the 2010 World Cup.

During training, an international team for the 34th America 's Cup on May 9, 2013, when he joined in February 2013, the Swedish catamaran Artemis broke in the bay of San Francisco on the front cross member and capsized. Simpson was held under water and drowned.
