Andrew Steiner

Andrew Steiner ( born August 22, 1908 in Dunajská Streda, † April 2, 2009 in Atlanta, Georgia, also Endre Steiner and André Steiner) was a Czechoslovakian and American architect.

Life

Andrew Steiner studied at the German Technical University in Brno. After graduating, he worked at Ernst Wiesner. From 1934 he was working in his own studio. During the Second World War, Steiner was a member of the illegal organization that had set itself the goal to protect Jews in Slovakia. After the communist coup in 1948, he emigrated to Cuba. From 1950 he lived in the United States. There Steiner worked as a town planner in Atlanta and lectured at the university. In 2004, it was the Czech Republic of the Masaryk University in Brno, awarded an honorary doctorate.
