Andrew Turnbull, Baron Turnbull, of Enfield in the London Borough of Enfield KCB, CVO ( born January 21, 1945) is a former British civil servant, who most recently between 2002 and 2005 Cabinet Secretary ( Cabinet Secretary ) and head of the civil service ( Head of Her Majesty 's Home Civil service ) was and is since 2005 member of the House of Lords.

Life

Ascent to the Cabinet Secretary and Head of the Public Service

After visiting the Enfield Grammar School Turnbull graduated at Christ 's College, University of Cambridge, and then joined the public service. In 1988 he became the first private secretary to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and remained in this position between 1990 and 1992 and in their successor John Major.
