Andrew W. Loomis

Andrew Williams Loomis (* June 27, 1797 in Lebanon, New London County, Connecticut; † August 24, 1873 in Cumberland, Maryland ) was an American politician of the Whig party. In 1837 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the 17th Congressional District of the State of Ohio.

Biography

Andrew Loomis was born in Lebanon. He studied law at Union College, where he received his degree in 1819. He was admitted to the bar and moved to Canton, where he was from then on worked as a lawyer. He later moved to Lisbon.

In the 1836 congressional elections Loomis was selected for the 17th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. There he sat on 4 March 1837 to 20 October 1837, when he resigned. In 1839 he moved to Pittsburgh to continue to pursue his profession. In 1868 he moved again, this time to Cleveland. In 1873 he died on a trip across the USA in Cumberland; he was buried in the Allegheny Cemetery in Pittsburgh.
