Andria
Andria is a town in the southern Italian province of Barletta- Andria- Trani, Apulia region. It has 100 432 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) and an area of 407 km ².
Location
The neighboring municipalities are Barletta, Canosa di Puglia, Corato, Minervino Murgia, Ruvo di Puglia, Spinazzola and Trani.
History
Andria was founded around 1046. In the year 1228 died here in Isabella II ( Jolanda ), the second wife of Frederick II, after the son of Conrad, the later Conrad IV, born to him. Andria was once favorite residence of Emperor Frederick II, the imposing Castel del Monte was built with eight towers in the 13th century. In Andria should be buried two of his four wives. Since 2008, Andria is one of the three capitals of the newly established province of Barletta -Andria -Trani.
Attractions
The cathedral from the 12th century with a crypt dating from the 8th century, is one of the main attractions.
Economy
The main economic activity is the winery and olive and almond cultivation.
