Andrieus A. Jones

Andrieus Aristieus Jones (* May 16, 1862 in Union City, Obion County, Tennessee, † December 20, 1927 in Washington DC ) was an American politician (Democratic Party), who represented the state of New Mexico in the U.S. Senate.

Initially he attended the schools near his home town Andrieus Jones moved to the Bethel College in McKenzie. In 1885 he graduated from Valparaiso University in Indiana and began to work in his home state after as a teacher. In the same year he moved to Las Vegas in New Mexico Territory, where he served as headmaster until 1887. During this time he studied law, so that he be admitted to the Bar in 1888 and was able to work as a lawyer in Las Vegas.

1893 Jones became chairman of the Bar Association ( Bar Association) of New Mexico. This year he was also elected mayor of Las Vegas, which he remained until 1894. By 1898, he then held the office of the district prosecutor.

After the turn of the century, Jones operated increasingly in politics. From 1908 he was a member of the Democratic National Committee, where he remained until 1922. For the first time he ran in 1912 for the U.S. Senate, but was defeated in the election. From 1913 to 1916 he served in the government of President Woodrow Wilson as Deputy Minister of the Interior. He resigned from this office when he was elected in his second attempt in the Senate. After re-election in 1922 for a second term closed at the end of which Andrieus Jones did not live. He died in late 1927 in Washington and was buried in Las Vegas.
