Andritz (Graz)

Andritz ( Slavic jendrica - " fast flowing water" ) is the 12th and largest area of ​​Graz city district. It is located in the north of Graz and consists of the old villages Oberandritz, sub Andritz and St. Vitus and the scattered settlement Neustift.

History

The area of present-day district Andritz was inhabited in Roman times. A cemetery from the late Roman era lay in Weinzödl. The name of Andritz is first mentioned in 1265 as " Endritz ". Many settlements and field names are here Slavic origin: Gabriach (of Gabraw ) old name for St. Veit, Weinitzen ( Vinica ); Zapuden, schools Ritz, Glim and Rannach.
