Andromeda IX

Andromeda IX is a spheroidal dwarf galaxy ( dSph ) in the constellation of Andromeda. It is a satellite galaxy of M31 and was built in 2004 by the research group Zucker et al. discovered on imaging survey of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. It belongs to the Local Group and herein to the Andromeda subgroup. At the time of its discovery it was the galaxy with the lowest surface brightness uV = 26.8 mag/arcsec2 and the smallest absolute brightness at all.

Andromeda IX was discovered on a scan along the major axis of the Andromeda nebula (M31 ), which was conducted in October 2002. The distance is in an assessment by McConnachie et al.aus 2005 equated with that of their parent galaxy.
