Andron

The Andron (Greek ἀνδρών, Men chamber ) was an integral part of the ancient Greek house. The formal antonym is Gynaikonitis, the " women's quarters ".

The Andron formed in contrast to the oikos public and representative part of the house. Here, the men met to festive drinking ( symposium ), meetings or dining. Usually the Andrones are the most ornate rooms of a house. There are numerous examples of mosaics, murals or statue embellishments.
