Andronikos Asen

Andronikos Asen ( † after 1322) was the second son of Constantine fled to Opel Bulgarian Tsar Ivan Asen III. and his wife Irene Palaiologina, a daughter of Byzantine Emperor Michael VIII Palaiologos Doukas Komnenos.

Andronicus was one of the major representatives of the Byzantine branch of the Bulgarian noble family Asen. He gained political influence for the first time as part of the despot of the Byzantine Morea (ca. 1316-1322 ), where he succeeded in the battle with the Franks and the Catalans, expanding the Byzantine position. In the following intra- Byzantine power struggles, he supported John VI. Cantacuzenus whose father he was since 1320.
