Andrzej GÅ‚Ä…b

Andrzej Głąb ( born November 10, 1966 in Chelm ) is a former Polish wrestler. He won a silver medal in Greco-Roman wrestling in the paper weight at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul.

Career

Andrzej Głąb, who trained as a mechanic, began as a teenager with karate, but soon moved to the rings. As a member of the sports club Gryfa Chelm 1982-1999 he was trained by Andrzei Wojda and in the national team of Stanisław Krzesiński and Ryszard Świerad. He focused fully on the Greco-Roman wrestling and wrestled always in the paper weight, the weight category to 48 kg body weight.

1986 began his international career when he finished 4th in the paper weight at the Junior European Championships in Malmo. In the same year he has also been used at the World Championships in Budapest, reaching there a good 5th place. Similar places he finished well at the European Championships 1987 in Tampere ( 5 ), at the 1987 World Championships in Clermont- Ferrand ( 4 ) and at the 1988 European Championship in Kolbotn in Oslo ( 4 ). Magyatdin Allachwerdijew from the USSR, Bratan Zenow from Bulgaria, Markus Scherer from the Federal Republic of Germany, Lars Rønningen from Norway and Vincenzo Maenza from Italy were the wrestlers, where he did not come over in these championships.

The greatest success of his career, scored Andrzej Głąb at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. In the paper weight he won the silver medal behind Vincenzo Maenza. Was Allows mainly by its clear points victory ( 10:5 techn. Dots) in the pool finale over the reigning world champion Magyatdin Allachwerdijew. In the final he lost to Vincenzo Maenza with 0:3 techn. Points.

1989 occupied Andrzej Głąb at the European Championships in Oulu again a good 4th place and at the World Championships the same year he placed in 5th position, which he won with a 5-0 points victory over Georgio Nikitas from Greece. Then get him not so a good result. At the European Championships in 1990 in Poznan reached the 7th Place and in the 1991 World Championships in Varna, he only came on the 11th Place.

He then ended his international career wrestler and trained at the Polish Sport University AWF for physical education teachers. Subsequently, he was coach at his hometown club Gryfa Chelm, where he formed and Dariusz Piotr Jabłoński to world class wrestlers.
