Andrzej Maria Deskur

Andrzej Maria Cardinal Deskur (* February 29, 1924 in Sancygniów in Kielce, Poland, † 3 September 2011 in Rome ) was a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Andrzej Maria Deskur, son of a French-born family, graduated from the Jagiellonian University in Cracow Jura and received his doctorate of rights. During this time he served as Secretary General of the eminent Polish student organization Bratniak. Later he entered the Catholic seminary of Cracow and received in 1950 after studying theology and philosophy by Pierre -Marie Cardinal Gerlier the sacrament of Holy Orders. He then completed his doctoral studies at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland.

1952 joined Deskur in the services of the Vatican. From 1954 to 1964 he was Under-Secretary of the Pontifical Commission for Cinema, Radio and Television, during the Second Vatican Council, during which he served various commissions, he took over duties in the press and public relations. 1973 Pope Paul VI appointed him. to the President of the Pontifical Commission for Social Communications. On June 17, 1974, he was called by Pope Paul VI. appointed Titular Bishop of Thenae. He received his episcopal consecration, the Pope on June 30, 1974 Co-consecrators were the then prosecuted ex officio in the Secretariat of State, Archbishop Giovanni Benelli, and the then Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, Archbishop Duraisamy Simon Lourdusamy.

Since the beginning of his time in Rome, he worked in various parishes of Rome in pastoral care. 1980 Pope John Paul II appointed him while maintaining his Titularbistums per hac vice Titular Archbishop. On April 8, 1984, he resigned from the leadership of the Commission for Social Communications.

1985 Andrzej Maria Deskur was accepted as a cardinal deacon with the title Diakonia San Cesareo in Palatio in the College of Cardinals and appointed Cardinal Priest 1996 per hac vice. From 1987 he served as President of the Pontificia Accademia dell'Immacolata.

Above all, through his involvement in public relations, he became widely renown. In Asia, he played a major role in building up the Catholic radio station Radio Veritas.

Deskur died on 3 September 2011 in Rome at the age of 87 years.
