Andy Hebenton

Andrew Alexander "Andy" Hebenton ( born October 3, 1929 in Winnipeg, Manitoba ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player ( right wing ), who played from 1955 to 1964 for the New York Rangers and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League.

Career

During his youth, he played for the Winnipeg Canadiens in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. After one year at the Cincinnati Mohawks in the AHL, he joined the PCHA to the Victoria Cougars. There he played five years and moved with the team in the WHL.

After a strong year, the New York Rangers took him to the 1955/56 season in the NHL. Eight seasons he was with the Rangers and missed at this time not a single game. He was always fair and got very few time penalties in 1957 earned him the Lady Byng this is a Memorial Trophy. In the season 1958/59 he made it into the top 10 scorers in the NHL. For the 1963/64 season brought him the Boston Bruins. After a year in which he had again denied all the games, the Bruins sent him to the Portland Buckaroos in the WHL. His 630 games in the NHL, he played without temporarily suspend also just a game. This mark was surpassed by Garry Unger until about ten years later.

After a year they gave him, together with Orland Kurtenbach and Pat Stapleton to the Toronto Maple Leafs from the charges in return Ron Stewart to Boston.

The Maple Leafs, however, he was never used. After two seasons with the Victoria Maple Leafs, he returned to the Portland Buckaroos. For his decent game, he was honored often in the WHL. With 45 years he was at the Buckaroos to player and coach was at age 46 the oldest player in the history of the CHL. After the end of his active career in 1976, he trained for a year, the Tulsa Oilers in the CHL.
