Andy Hedlund

Andrew "Andy" Hedlund ( born May 16, 1978 in Osseo, Minnesota ) is an American professional ice hockey player (defender) who plays with the Black Wings Linz in the Erste Bank Hockey League since May 2012. Hedlund plays professional hockey since 1997. Until 2005 he was active exclusively in North America, before he decided to first move to Europe.

Career

The defender was after his time in the U.S. Junior League USHL in the squad of the Minnesota State University, Mankato in the play mode, the NCAA, the American college sports organization. For the University the right shooter was during the first season of his studies in a total of 36 games in which he was able to record six points scorer on the ice. In the following game in 2000/01 Hedlund was able to increase its yield to twelve points from 38 games. In his last year of college, the Americans increased again to 15 points in 37 missions.

In the next NHL Entry Draft, the defender was indeed ungedraftet, but the Ottawa Senators took him to the 2001/02 season still under contract. In the current year, he was able to gain experience in the professional field in the organization of the NHL teams. Hedlund finished the season with the ECHL farm team the Senators, the Trenton Titans. For this, he played two games in the regular season and six playoff games. However Hedlund remained still without point at six penalty minutes. The following season 2002/ 03 he started again with the Titans and brought it in 13 games on a goal and two assists.

2002 Andrew Hedlund was first used at the Binghamton Senators in the AHL and played here the rest of the season. In 59 games, he scored one goal and seven assists. In the following season the defender finally belonged to the permanent staff cadres in Binghamton and completed a total of 80 inserts season. Also in the 2004/05 season he again played for Binghamton Senators, but was unable to repeat the successful last season. For the season 2005/ 06 the Americans finally signed a contract with the Krefeld Penguins of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga.

For 2006/ 07 Hedlund first moved to league rivals DEG Metro Stars, but then returned in June to the Ottawa Senators back in the National Hockey League. Once again, the defender is there, however, does not prevail and was only at the Farm Teams Hershey Bears and the Binghamton Senators used in the AHL, so he signed a new two- year contract with the DEG Metro Stars for season 2007/ 08 .. In the 2009/10 season played Hedlund for the Adler Mannheim. Its originally for another year running contract, however, was dissolved after the season. In June 2010 it was announced that Hedlund will return to Dusseldorf. He signed a two- year contract.

After the expiration of his contract in May 2012, he took an offer from reigning Austrian champions EHC Linz and is thus at least the 2012/13 season contest for the Black Wings.
