Andy Montañez

Andrés Montañez ( born May 7, 1942 in San Juan, Puerto Rico), better known as Andy Montañez, is a famous salsa musicians.

Life

Andy Montañez in Tras Talleres was, a part of the Santurce district of San Juan, the eldest of 17 siblings.

Montañez was a member of the internationally successful band El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico famous for songs such as hojas blancas (white wing ) Un verano en Nueva York ( A Summer in New York), El barbero loco (the crazy barber ), etc. In the 15 years in the El Gran Combo, he worked on 37 LPs. Since then he has left the group, he is internationally successful as a solo artist and toured several times through Latin America and the United States. At the Expo 1992 in Seville, Spain, he was representing his home country of Puerto Rico.

On November 2, won the 2006 Montañez, along with Pablo Milanes, his first Latin Grammy for best traditional Latin American music.

On 19 July 2008, he first appeared in Germany, accompanied by the band Mercado Negro, under the 6th International Salsa Festival Hamburg.
