Andy Murray (ice hockey)

Andy Murray ( born March 3, 1951 in Gladstone, Manitoba ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player and current coach.

Career

After a few successful career as a player began Andy Murray in 1976 his coaching career as head coach of the Brandon Travellers of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. From 1981 to 1984 he was standing by the EHC Kloten from the National League A behind the band, and following in the same position two seasons with the Zurich SC and EV train. 1988 he worked as a assistant coach for the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League. Another commitment in Germany, he received in 1998/ 99, when the Canadians worked as a manager for the Cologne Sharks. Following his work in Cologne, he accepted an offer from the Los Angeles Kings and was first head coach of an NHL team. In the first three years in California, he reached the play-offs, although always failed there but each in the first two rounds. In the two years thereafter, the Kings did not reach the finals. In the season 2005/ 06 the Kings threatened again resign early, which is why Murray was fired shortly before the end of the pre-season and replaced by John Torchetti. From December 2006 until early 2010, Murray was head coach of the St. Louis Blues. 2009 Murray has been nominated as one of three candidates for the Jack Adams Award as coach of the year in the NHL. In addition, he was responsible for the Canadian national team at the 2007 World Championships in Russia as head coach and led them to win the title. In total, six out won the Spengler Cup and three gold medals with the Canadian selection to Palmarčs of Murray.

On July 26, 2011 Murray was as head coach of the hockey team, the Western Michigan University, Western Michigan Broncos, presented and equipped with a contract for five years.

Andy Murray is the former NHL and DEL player Marty Murray 's uncle. His sons Brady Murray and Murray Jordi currently play in the National League A for the HC Lugano, respectively. the Rapperswil -Jona Lakers.
