The Star Anemone (Anemone hortensis ) is a plant of the genus Anemone (Anemone ).

Description

The Star Anemone is a perennial plant that reaches the plant height of 20 to 40 centimeters. The mostly hand-shaped basal leaves are three-to five-piece with front slashed, wedge-shaped sections. The stalk is flowered. The flower is 3 to 6 inches wide. Short below her is a whorl of bracts, which usually are sitting undivided and lineallanzettlich. The 12 to 19, usually 15 bracts are pointed, schmallanzettlich and pale or dark purple, violet colored or almost white. The anthers are blue.

The flowering period extends from February to April.

Dissemination

The Star Anemone is found in southern France, Italy, Dalmatia, Albania, Crete and Karpathos. It grows on fields broke in Garrigues, in open woods and olive groves at altitudes from 0 to 1000 (rarely up to 1800 ) meters.

There are two known subspecies.

Anemone hortensis forms with Anemone Anemone x fulgens pavonina the hybrids ( DC.) J.Gay. This has more than 15 narrow scarlet bloom.

The Star Anemone is rarely used as an ornamental plant in alpine houses.
