Anerood Jugnauth

Sir Anerood Jugnauth ( Devanagari: अनिरुद्घ जगन्नाथ, Aniruddh Jagannāth; born March 29, 1930 in Vacoas - Phoenix) was the President and Premier, Defense and Interior Ministers of Mauritius. He belongs to the ethnic Indian majority population of the island nation.

Life

He worked from 1982 to 1995 when he was voted out, Prime Minister. As leader of the Militant Socialist Movement in 2000 he was again prime minister. In 2003 he assumed the office of President of Mauritius, his term ended in 2012.

Sir Anerood took in the 1960s an active role in the negotiations on the independence of Mauritius.
