Angel Dust (Band)

Angel Dust is a German metal band from Dortmund.

History

The band was founded in 1984 by Andreas Lohrum (guitar and vocals), a year later met Dirk Assmuth (drums ), Roman Keymer (guitar, vocals) and ultimately Frank Bankowski ( bass) to do so.

In 1986 published these four musicians under the name of their first album Angel Dust Into The Dark Past. For the second album is a better singer should be involved, the choice fell on the Yugoslavs SL Coe from Siegen. Into The Dark Past is still the most successful publication of this band in Germany, the two guitarists and also important songwriters of this album, Lohrum and Keymer, withdrew due to disagreements with the new singer of the band project. To Dust You Will Decay in 1988, although critically acclaimed, but did not bring the hoped-for commercial success in Germany.

By 1989, Angel Dust toured et al with Blind Guardian, Destruction, Tankard, Sodom and Running Wild.

In 1997, the band with a new singer Dirk Thurisch, and with Bernd Aufermann undertook a new guitar and with Frank Bankowskis brother Steven also the first time a keyboardist. Borders Of Reality, published by Century Media differs not least through the keyboard playing Steven Bankowskis significantly from its predecessors from.

After the albums Bleed (1999) and Enlighten The Darkness (2000) was the band among other things, with Storm Hammer, Lefay and Steel Prophet on tour through Europe, as well as with God Forbid, Nevermore and Opeth through North America. Other U.S. shows followed.

Assmuth briefly left the band and was replaced by Michael embroidering to 2001. Also Aufermann guitarist left the band before the U.S. tour and was replaced by Ritchie Wilkison, who played guitar already for Demons & Wizards.

Together with Wilkison, the band recorded the album Of Human Bondage, two years later took singer Dirk Thurisch with his solo Project Mercury Tide Album Why? on. First, however, he threw some European and U.S. shows with Angel Dust. This meant that Frank Bankowski, bassist, songwriter and one of the songwriters of the band, this end of July 2002 left. In 2005 also left Thurisch the band for personal reasons, but returned in 2009 back again.
