Angela Gheorghiu

Angela Gheorghiu ( [ and͡ʒela ɡe̯orɡi.u ] ) ( born September 7, 1965 in Adjud ) is a Romanian soprano and opera singer.

Biography and artistic work

Angela Gheorghiu, the daughter of a platoon leader, began with the singing already as a young student in the music school in her hometown. At 14, the talented young singer was sent to Bucharest to a music school to study singing after high school at the Academy of Music. At the age of 23 years she was with her ​​thesis performance as Mimi in La Bohème by Giacomo Puccini their debut. After the political changes in Romania in 1990, she left her home and was in London engaged at the Royal Opera House, where she made her debut as Zerlina in Mozart's Don Giovanni. Another great success for them was the Violetta in La Traviata with Georg Solti as conductor: Her performance convinced the television management of the BBC spontaneously from changing the program and live to switch to the Royal Opera House of London to the show on TV transmitted. And so began in London the triumph of a soprano, who also likes to sing songs of their Romanian homeland.
