Career

Your first big success came in 1955 when they won the French Championships in women's singles and doubles competition at Wimbledon. She won the Australian Championships in 1958 in singles and was in the same year against Althea Gibson in the final of Wimbledon, which she lost, however.

In 1961 she then triumphed at Wimbledon, when she won the final against her compatriot Christine Truman. The performance of Angela Mortimer is all the more impressive because they had to contend with a big handicap. She was very hard of hearing and could not hear the popping of the ball.

Since 1967 she is married to sports writer John Barrett. In 1993, she was inducted into the Hall of Fame of tennis.
