The angels Wurzen ( Angelica ) are a genus of flowering plants of the carrot family ( Apiaceae ). The 100 to 200 species are distributed mainly in Africa and Eurasia.

Description

Angelica species grow as perennial herbaceous plants. They form a short " rhizome ", which has remains of leaf sheaths at the top. The striped stem is branched dichotomously at the top. The alternate on the stem arranged leaves are divided into leaf sheath, petiole and leaf blade.

The terminal or pendent, doppeldoldigen inflorescences are structured loosely. It may be present or they lack many bracts. There are many available up some rays. There are many Hüllchen present, rarely absent. The calyx teeth are short or rudimentary. The mostly white, sometimes pink to purple, rarely pale yellow petals are circular to obovate with narrow inwardly bent tip.

The ellipsoidal, oblong to almost spherical fruit is flattened on the back and the lateral ribs are thickened and narrowly winged, the wings are closely pressed together.

Dissemination

The 100 to 200 species are distributed mainly in Africa and Eurasia. About 24 species are listed for North America at USDA.
