Angelo Di Pietro

Cardinal Angelo Di Pietro ( May 22nd 1828 in Vivaro Romano, † December 5, 1914 in Rome ) was a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

He attended the seminary in Tivoli and studied at the University La Sapienza in Rome, where he in 1858 his Ph.D. Doctor iuris utriusque acquired.

He was ordained in Tivoli on 20 December 1851 priests. He worked as a secretary and Progeneralvikar of the Bishop of Tivoli and Ostia and Velletri general of the diocese.

On June 25, 1866, he was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Velletri and Titular Bishop of Nyssa. He received his episcopal consecration of the Pontifical Grand Almoner Gustav Adolf Cardinal Prince Hohenlohe on 1 July of the same year in Rome. On December 28, 1877, he was appointed Titular Archbishop of Nazianzus. He was appointed on 18 January 1878 the Apostolic Delegate and extraordinary legacies in Paraguay, Uruguay and the Confederación Argentina. From 30 September 1879 to his appointment as nuncio of the Apostolic Nunciature in Munich on March 21, 1882, he acted as nuncio the interests of the Holy See in the Empire of Brazil. On May 23, 1887, the certificate of appointment as Nuncio has been issued in Spain.

On January 16, 1893 it took Leo XIII. as cardinal priest of Santi Bonifacio e Alessio in the College of Cardinals. The Pope entrusted him on 20 June 1893 the leadership of the council as prefect of the Congregation. From 1895 to 1896 he managed a eunuch of the Holy College of Cardinals, the finances of the College. He was born on June 22, 1903, Cardinal Priest of San Lorenzo in Lucina. He participated in the conclave of 1903 that elected Pius X, and the conclave in 1914, the Benedict XV. chose.

He died on December 5, 1914 at the age of 86 years in Rome. His grave is in the cemetery Campo di Verano.
