Angelo Felici

Angelo Cardinal Felici ( born July 26, 1919 in Segni, Rome Province, Italy, † June 17, 2007 in Rome ) was a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Angelo Felici studied Catholic theology and philosophy. On April 4, 1942, he received in the chapel of the Pontifical Latin American Group " Pius " the sacrament of Holy Orders. After further studies at the Pontifical Lateran University, the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy and the Pontifical Gregorian University, he earned his doctorate in canon law. In 1945 he was appointed Secretary of the Congregation for Extraordinary Ecclesiastical Affairs. Because of its great diplomatic skill he was given many difficult missions, including the talks after the Six -Day War in Jerusalem.

In addition, Felici maintained regular theological lectures at the Pontifical Universities. 1967 Pope Paul VI appointed him. Titular Archbishop of Caesariana and sent him as Apostolic Nuncio to the Netherlands. He received his episcopal consecration Amleto Giovanni Cardinal Cicognani on 24 September 1967 at St. Peter's Basilica; Co-consecrators were Curia Archbishop Giovanni Benelli and Bishop Luigi Carli Maria. From 1976 to 1979 he served as Apostolic Nuncio to Portugal, from 1979 to 1988 held the same position in France.

In 1988, Pope John Paul II as a cardinal deacon with the title Diakonia Santi Biagio e Carlo ai Catinari in the College of Cardinals, and named him Prefect of the Congregation for the Saints. He was raised while maintaining its titular church of Cardinal Priest pro hac vice in 1999. From 1995 to 2000 he was president of the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei. At Conclave 2005, he took no further part because of the age limit.

The celebration of the funeral under the direction of Pope Benedict XVI. took place in St. Peter's Basilica on 19 June 2007.
