Angelo Giori

Angelo Giori ( born May 11, 1586 Pieve Torina; † August 8, 1662 ) was a cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. He stood for many years in the service of Cardinal Maffeo Barberini Pope Urban VIII and later his appointment to the Cardinal stand was made at the end of the pontificate of Urban VIII, due to the existing over years of loyalty relationship. Life

Angelo Giori was born on May 11, 1586, the son of Giovanni Francesco Poli Giori and Dora Polini. The parents came from a humble background. About them nothing more is known. Angelo Giori studied grammar in Camerinio, where he also gave elementary instruction children. Thanks to Cardinal Maffeo Barberini in which working as a valet uncle he also got a job as a tutor in the house of Barberini. With the support of his uncle, he also continued his studies. He ultimately earned even a doctoral degree in canonical and civil law.

After Maffeo Barberini was elected pope ( Urban VIII ), he appointed Angelo Giori his personal papal chamberlain. So Angelo Giori was responsible for the care of the everyday environment of the Pope. Due to the close proximity to the Pope Giori is thus one of the most influential people in the curia. Urban VIII also entrusted him very soon to the task of altar ista della basilica Vaticana.
