Angelroda is a town in Ilm-Kreis in Thuringia in Germany.

Geography

Angelroda is located in the foothills of the Thuringian Forest in the valley of the Tame Gera. About the valley of limestone mountains rise. Due to weather, the fabled chamber holes form. The up to five meters deep holes and ruts and rock outcrops of limestone are two kilometers south of the village.

History

The place name probably derives from getting that Angelroda was founded by the Teutonic fishing. The ending- roda is very common in Thuringia and refers to a deforested area.

The place was first mentioned on March 27, 948 in a charter of Emperor Otto I to the Abbey Hersfeld as Angelnrod. It receives the Abbey, the village in exchange for Worms Life in Mansfeld. This document is kept in the Hessian State Archive Marburg. A gentry family consisted in the 13th and 14th centuries in Angelroda. She called after the place " of Angelrode " and possessed lands in the area.

1651 bought the noble family of the village joke life by the counts of Schwarzburg. Their descendants lived until 1946 in Angelrodaer castle. Dating back to the foundation of the village church was extended in 1696 to its present form. The fire department Angelrodas was founded in 1717, yet it was in 1781 in a fire, in which 31 houses were destroyed. Even in the 18th century there were ten Angelroda lemon traders and teamsters, the Thuringian goods managed to northern Germany and brought back from there and a lemon, flax and pegs. The cemetery was in 1847 created.

In 1923 there were two estates in Angelroda: the " yard No. 10 " with 395 hectares of job joke of life ( and siblings ) and the manor with 164 acres. The latter belonged to the expropriation without compensation in 1945 Luise of joke life. The manor belongs to the castle was demolished in 1947.

By 1920 Angelroda was to the Official Stadtilm in the Principality of Schwarzburg- Rudolstadt belonging exclave. From 1920 to 1952, the village belonged to the district of Arnstadt. The county was divided in 1952 and then became part of Angelroda to reduced circuit Arnstadt in the Erfurt district. From 1951 to 1953, the Thuringian later Protestant Bishop Werner Leich vicar was in Angelroda. In 1994, the counties of Ilmenau and Arnstadt were reunited under the name Ilm-Kreis.

Culture and sights

The origins of the village church Angelrodaer probably go back to the 12th century, from which is the base of the bell tower. This " tower room " can be viewed as a small chapel. From the latter, then the church was further extended and expanded. The tower entrance has Gothic features, and tells of a tag around 1500. The three sided circumferential gallery and the pulpit altar of the church was built in 1796. At the church, and on the adjoining cemetery grave various historical times have been preserved, including several grave times by members of the family of Life joke and the ornate tomb of a lemon dealer with reliefplatischer representation of the deceased.

From Angelroda lock only farm buildings and parks are still preserved. In the years 1614-1618 the representative castle was built by Colonel Burkhart Jerome Russwurm, from 1651 it was owned by the family of joke life. About a massive ground floor were two half-timbered upper floors. The high roof had two cross gables. The front was broken by an octagonal tower with tail dome, each of a house were to enter only. The large reception room on the ground floor reached one library and family archives. Jewel was the Emperor's Hall on the first floor with numerous ancestral portraits of the family of joke life. Last Lord of the Manor was the General Friedrich Karl von joke life, which was advanced in years sold in February 1946 from his possession. In 1947, the intact castle, which had 330 years determines the townscape, plundered and demolished. This was based on the command 209 the Soviet occupation forces. Only the park that Gutsverwalterhaus (now seat of the municipality ), the farm buildings ( local history museum since 1998) and a horse barn ( converted into a community center ) have been preserved and restored in the 1990s. According to neglect the family tomb of the family of Life joke was filled in next to the church in the late 1960s. In the former farm buildings or in the set up there for the 1050 year celebration in 1998 Heimatstube historical images, maps and household items are issued from the last centuries. One can also see commodities of formerly resident in the village craftsmen, eg Utensils of a glass blower and a cooper.

The 26.5 meters high and 100.4 meters long Angelrodaer railway viaduct is part of the single-track railway line Erfurt- Ilmenau and spans the valley of the Tame Gera. Inaugurated on August 6, 1879. At this time went through the route four countries ( Black -Sondershausen, Schwarzburg- Rudolstadt, Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and Saxe-Weimar ), so that a treaty was concluded for this purpose on 19 December 1876 ( a fifth contractor was Prussia, which since 1806 had sovereign rights over Erfurt, among others. Much of the driving in Thuringia railways of the 19th century were operated by Prussia from circa 1885). The viaduct is a resting on two pillars steel truss bridge whose dams are covered terraced with ashlar. The steel piers of the bridge were concreted in 1904 to achieve greater resilience. Southeast of the bridge, offering up to 20 meters closes lower on rock breakdown.

Economy and Transport

Angelroda is dominated by agriculture. Some residents still work in agriculture. Many Angelrodaer commute to the nearby towns to work.

There are roads to Neusiß, Gera mountain and Geschwenda. A station does not have the place, even though he is on the railway line Erfurt- Ilmenau.
