Angera

The Italian community Angera located in the province of Varese ( Lombardy ) on the southeastern shore of Lake Maggiore, and has 5634 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Attractions

It is known for its powerful Angera castle Rocca di Angera, located on a promontory which dominates the surrounding area. The oldest mention of this building dates back to 1066. Rocca di Angera, since 1449 owned by the Borromeo family, is open except in winter for the audience.

In the center of Angera the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, built in the 15th century with frescoes from the 18th century. The Archaeological Museum, housed in a palace from the 15th century, houses finds from Roman times, when Angera was an important station. Along the lake stretches a promenade, the lakefront, and a marina.
