Their wingspan is between 4.5 and 5.5 centimeters. Characteristic is the wing posture in the resting phase: they are folded along a little and look like a dried, dead leaf.
Dissemination
The nocturnal moth is a migrant butterfly. The assumption that the type is not north of the Alps down to earth, has now been refuted by the regular finds overwintered caterpillars. However, the northern limit of the earthiness in Europe is not yet known. Its distribution extends over Europe, North Africa and Asia. In early summer, he flies from the south over the Alps to central and northern Europe and inhabited gardens, open areas, forest areas and urban areas. He is not particularly specialized. The next generation flies partially in late summer back.
Habitat
During the larval development open land habitats are preferred. During the walk take the butterflies in a variety of habitats to food.
Way of life
Flight Times
The Achateule flies in two generations from May to July and August to November. This is when the moths of the first generation probably weaker animals that have overwinters as caterpillar. The stronger second generation is reinforced by immigrants from the south of animals. Besides these main flight times moths have been observed throughout the year.
Behavior
