Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules

The Anglo - American Cataloguing Rules (AACR ) is an librarians usually work that was first adopted in 1967. The second edition ( AACR2 ) dates from 1978, the most recent revision took place in 2002 ( AACR2r ). AACR2 is the world's most widely used set of rules and has been fully introduced from over 30 different countries. Editor of the AACR are the American Library Association, the Canadian Library Association and the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals.

The German counterpart are the rules used since the 1970s for alphabetical cataloging (RAK ). In Germany, there was heated debate about whether it should be changed from RAK to AACR. The term " Resource Description and Access" ( RDA), a successor was introduced in 2010, in which, among other things, the Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records ( FRBR ) should be given greater consideration.
