The Kwanza is the currency of Angola and is emitted from the Angolan National Bank.

In 1977, sparked the Kwanza ( AOK, divided into 100 Lwei ) from the Escudo. 1990 new Kwanza ( novo kwanza, AON ) has been introduced. The exchange ratio for the old Kwanza ( AOK) was 1:1, but was for the purpose of combating inflation, the exchange amount limited. The currency reform of 1995 1000 Kwanzas against the Kwanza Reajustado ( AOR) were exchanged, which was divided into 100 centimes. 1999 were exchanged for the current Kwanza ( AOA ) in a renewed currency reform 1,000,000 Kwanza Reajustado. He, too, is divided into 100 centimes.

There are coins of 10 and 50 centimes, as well as 1, 2 and 5 Kwanza and banknotes of 10, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 Kwanza. The scores of 200, 500 and 1000 Kwanza were put into circulation on 19 July 2004 for the first time.
