Anim8or

Anim8or is a free 3D modeling program for the creation of 3D computer animation for Windows 32 (Microsoft Windows 95 to XP).

The current version 0.95c of 2 April 2007 can be described best as a base for an entertainment program. In this case, the program is able to allow a simple rendering. The specificity and the strength of the program is the function to equip characters with a moving skeleton and animate.

Anim8or itself is written in English. The approximately 100-page documentation for the program is available in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese.

Author

Anim8or was programmed by Steve Glanville. He works as a software engineer at Nvidia and worked there part in the development of device drivers for OpenGL.

Anim8or has been licensed by the author as freeware: Anim8or is free and may be used by anyone, but the source code is not publicly available.

Technology

As a basis for 3D graphics using OpenGL, OpenGL-capable hardware and software is out of this basic system requirement. To render video, and then to be compressed, used Anim8or installed respectively on the computer video codecs.

The differences to the commercial competition ( for example, Maya, Cinema 4D, 3ds Max ) arise mainly in a simpler installation and lower functions, as Anim8or only consists of a 1.25 MB application file. Anim8or is thus a stand-alone software.

Anim8or mastered some of the 3D modeling and animation range commonly used file formats, but also has its own file format ( file extension: " an8. "). This format is no texture data again, but stores only mesh and animation data. Since the contents of. An8 files are in plain text, they can be easily changed with the help of text editors. This also allows external programs like Terranim8or, objects and scenes to change and so Anim8or to expand functions as particle effects, and terrain generation.
