Anjum

Anjum ( Frisian: Eanjum ) is a village in the northeast of the municipality Dongeradeel in the Dutch province of Friesland. It has 1100 inhabitants (as of 2008 ).

History

Anjum was probably founded around the year 1000 by a man named Ane on a mound. In the All Saints 1570 530 residents died from Anjum. In the Christmas flood in 1717 lost 53 residents from Anjum their lives.

From 1913 to 1935 Anjum was the terminus of the Dokkumer Lokaaltje, a North Frisian railway line. The train station still stands today. In Anjum also contains the Michaëlkerk, was built around 1100 Church of tuff.
