The Ankaratra massif is a volcanic mountain range that runs in the middle of the central highlands of Madagascar in north-south direction. Its highest mountain, the Tsiafajavona is 2,644 m high. In a first phase developed trachytic eruption volcanic domes and massive columns eruptions formed vast lava fields. During the recent activity originated in the southern part of the massif some cinder cones. Volcanic eruptions formed some craters, which were filled with lakes.
