Ankarsrum

Ankarsrum is a town in the municipality of Västervik in the Swedish province of Kalmar län.

Ankarsrum, located between the lakes and Långsjön Hällsjön in the historical province of Småland was formed around a traditional iron foundry. Founded in 1655 work Ankarsrum bruk (now Ankarsrum Industries AB) is one of the oldest farms in the country. In its heyday in the first half of the 20th century, the work Ankarsrum was the leading producer of ovens, stoves and bathtubs. Today, the plant has lost its importance and the population of the town has fallen to 1254 ( 2010 ).

Attractions

The history of the foundry is documented in the museum in the former foundry buildings. Here every year takes place in the village park instead of the three-day festival accordion Durstämman in which Sweden's best accordion player is determined. Through the town, the narrow gauge heritage railway runs from Västervik to Hultsfred.
