Ankawa ( Syriac -Aramaic: ܥ ܢ ܟ ܒ ܐ, Arabic عنكاوا, DMG ʿ Ankawa ) is a suburb of Arbil in Iraq, an estimated 40,000 people. Ankawa is mostly called by the Chaldeans and Assyrians, also Chaldo - Assyrians inhabited. It is one of the oldest Christian settlements in Iraq.

Ankawa has three churches ( Mar Joseph, Mar Elias and Mar Giorgis ), and a new Assyrian Church. Additionally, the suburb is located at the newly built international airport Arbil.

Due to the threatening situation for Christians in Iraq some 3,000 refugees in Sweden, Australia, the USA and Canada and in parts of Europe are staying. These refugees come from cities such as Baghdad, Mosul and Basra and use Ankawa usually only as a stopover.
