Ankerbrua

Ankerbrua ( German: Anchor Bridge ) is a bridge over the Akerselva in Oslo. It is located in Grunerløkka district and is an extension of Torggata from its very center. On the other side of the river then you meet the Sondre gate and the Markvei.

The first Ankerbrua was created in 1874 as a wooden bridge. In 1926 it was replaced by a stone bridge. In 1937 the bridge was awarded four bronze sculptures by Dyre Vaa, one in each corner. These have fairy-tale motifs, making the bridge is also called popularly fairytale bridge. The themes are:

  • King Valemon
  • Peer Gynt
  • Kari Trestakk
  • Veslefrikk

In planning the renovation of Grunerløkka in the 1960s was the Ankerbrua one of the few structures that could be preserved.
