AN/MPQ-64 Sentinel

The AN/MPQ-64 " Sentinel " is a 3D radar of short to medium range for use in the air defense of the army to direct weapons lead. There is a working in the X-band pulse Doppler radar with a phased array antenna.

The radar detects, monitors and identifies the targets automatically. They are used in hazard classes ( cruise missiles, drones, helicopters and aircraft ) divided and thus optimizes the sequence of control. Through the use of an electronically controlled diametrically working (in two opposite directions) antenna, the same data renewal rate is achieved than when the antenna would turn virtually double rotation number. In the classic version of 40 km range can be achieved, in the modernized version AN/MPQ-64/F1, as used by the American forces in Iraq since 2003, 75 km away.

The radar is mounted on a Einachshänger which can be operated unmanned and offset of the weapon system. The power is supplied via a built-in 400 Hz diesel-electric unit. The data lines to the weapons systems consists of a broadband fiber-optic cable. These data may also be fed into a radar data network.
