Anna von Mildenburg

Anna Mildenburg ( born November 29, 1872 in Vienna, † January 27, 1947 in Vienna ), born Bell Chan Mildenburg, nee Anna Bahr - Mildenburg, was a soprano and acclaimed interpreter of Wagner.

She was a student of pink paper at the Conservatory of the Society of Friends of Music in Vienna. By working with Cosima Wagner and Gustav Mahler acquired a comprehensive presentation ability.

Her first engagement occurred in 1895 at the Hamburg Municipal Theatre (now Hamburg State Opera ), where she sang the role of Brünnhilde, one of the hardest Wagner roles. With Gustav Mahler, who had been Kapellmeister since 1891 at this home, she began a love affair that was, however, 1897 has already cooled down significantly again. 1897 she sang in Bayreuth Kundry.

Although the relationship was over with her, Gustav Mahler took in 1898 at the Vienna Court Opera, where she had Mahler's enormous success in the famous productions. She was also active throughout Europe as a singer. Anna Mildenburg to 1917 was celebrated member of the Vienna Court Opera, and returned to 1930 as a guest, keep coming back. The performance of Tristan und Isolde at the Mildenburg Isolde sang, Alfred Roller created the stage and Mahler conducted, is still regarded as a legendary performance.

In 1904 she had a relationship with Hermann Bahr, which culminated in 1909 after his divorce in marriage. Together they moved to Salzburg in 1912. In 1920, she then took a job as a " teacher of Art " at the Academy of Music in Munich. According to Bahr's death in 1934 she acted as his executor and attempted to moderate success, to arrange his writings.

Anna Mildenburg appeared at the Salzburg Festival in 1922-1927 Hugo von Hofmannsthal's The Salzburg Great World Theater and taught in 1929 at the International Summer Academy Mozarteum in Salzburg.

Honors and Awards

  • Together with her husband Hermann Bahr, she received an honorary grave at the Salzburg municipal cemetery.
