Anna Wing

Anna Wing MBE ( born October 30, 1914 in Hackney, London as Anna Eva Lydia Catherine Wing, † July 7, 2013 ibid ) was a British actress in film, television and theater. She played 1960-2009 over 100 different roles in film and television productions. Including in films such as Nora, The Hound of the Baskervilles, Xtro - Not all aliens are friendly, Dog Eat Dog, The Calcium Kid, or Son of Rambow. She became internationally known but especially by the role of Lou Beale in the BBC series EastEnders mid-1980s.

Life and career

Anna Wing, born in 1914 in Hackney as a daughter of a grocer in modest circumstances, first made an education as a teacher before by lucky circumstances later got a place at the School of Acting Croydon, after an anonymous benefactor took over the school fees. Her first film role was in 1938, in the early days of BBC TV television. From 1960, she joined then regularly in feature films and television series.

The director John Schlesinger occupied it in 1963 in his comedy Billy Liar in a small supporting role. In the 1960 and 1970 years, Anna Wing played mainly on television in episodes of successful series. Among her performances in the medium were BBC Sunday-Night Play ( 1962), Z Cars ( 1962-1974 ), Dixon of Dock Green ( 1963-1965 ), Armchair Theatre (1969 ), For the Love of Ada (1970 ), Dial M for Murder (1974 ), foxes (1976 ), Van der Valk (1977 ) or Penmarric (1979).

In 1985, she auditioned for the role of Lou Beale in the BBC series EastEnders and got the commitment after she failed to prove by her birth certificate that she had been born in Hackney and thus could qualify as the real East Ender.

Even in retirement, she was still in demand regularly for character roles in movies and televi. She played in the 2000s in Moody Shoaibi comedy Dog Eat Dog, 2004 Alex De Rakoff film The Calcium Kid or 2007 in Garth Jennings adventure comedy Son of Rambow the grandmother of the part.

Anna Wings man from his first marriage was the actor Peter Davey. Her second husband was the poet Patrick O'Connor. She had two sons, Mark Wing- Davey, also an actor and Jon Wing- O'Connor, a teacher.

Anna Wing died on July 7, 2013 at the age of 98 years in her hometown.
