Annaberg

The district of Annaberg was a district in the south- west of Saxony. Neighboring districts were in the east of Middle Ore Mountains, in the south of the Czech administrative regions Karlovy Vary ( Carlsbad Region ) and Usti ( Ústí nad Labem Region ), in the western district of Aue -Schwarzenberg and the northwest of the district Stollberg.

History

An early administrative unit on the territory of the later district was the mill office Annaberg. After Silver finds at the frightening mountain and the founding of the " New Town on Schreckenberg " ( 1496, 1501 in St. Annaberg renamed), the formerly existing in this area domination Pöhlberg was dissolved in 1499 and converted into an office. Its seat was in the electoral Mr. Mill on the Sehma. The mill gave the office his name. 1553 the office was leased to the City Council Annaberg. It was 1590-1704 in charge of the three villages Frohnau, Geyersdorf and small Großrückerswalde. 1794 Mill Office Annaberg was dissolved and transferred its duties to the Justice Office Wolkenstein. By 1830, however, remained different responsibilities on site. The mill office was part of the Erzgebirge circle.

After the adoption of the Constitution of Saxony in 1831 and given by the constitutional unification of the kingdom also an administrative reorganization of the territory was required. As part of this reform, the territory of the later district Annaberg was assigned to a Amtshauptmannschaft based in Forchheim. 1871, the headquarters were moved to Annaberg. With the administrative reform of 1873 /74 Amtshauptmannschaft Annaberg was formed within the territorial boundaries as they existed until 1952 and again 1994-2008. In 1939 it was renamed the district of Annaberg.

1952 the district boundaries were re-cut in the wake of a territorial reform within the GDR. The circle Annaberg, which now belonged to Karl- Marx-Stadt district remained, although there are, in essence, but was forced to cede to the newly created circuit Zschopau the holdings situated in the north communities Ehrenfriedersdorf, Gelenau / Erzgeb., Herold, Jahnsbach and Thum. In a new district reform in 1994, this change was reversed, the county Annaberg got back its historic character.

In the course of administrative reform in Saxony, the districts of Annaberg, Aue- Schwarzenberg, Erzgebirge District Middle and Stollberg combined to form the new Erzgebirgskreis on 1 August 2008.
