Annan (Dumfries and Galloway)

Annan (Gaelic: Annain ) is a town in the Scottish unitary authority Dumfries and Galloway. It lies about 25 km east-southeast of Dumfries, near the north coast of the Solway Firth in the traditional county of Dumfriesshire. In 2001, Annan recorded 8389 inhabitants.

Traffic

The A75, which links Stranraer to Gretna, Annan affected in the north and includes the city on to the long distance network. The river Annan, which runs west of the city, is crossed at the level of Annan of two roads and a railway bridge. The train station of Annan was served in earlier times by the Glasgow and South Western Railway on the Glasgow, Dumfries and Carlisle Railway. Today, First ScotRail operates the station. The trains on the Glasgow South Western Line drive the train station on a regular basis.
