Anne Gorsuch Burford

Anne Irene McGill Gorsuch Burford (* April 21, 1942 in Casper, Wyoming; † 18 July 2004 in Aurora, Colorado) was an American politician and administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency ( EPA).

Biography

The daughter of a surgeon studied at the University of Colorado and earned there in 1961 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA). A subsequent post-graduate studies in law at the Law School of the University of Colorado, she graduated from in 1964. Later, she received a scholarship from the Fulbright Program and studied criminal law in India. Once admitted, she worked as a lawyer and later worked for the Mountain States Legal Foundation, a conservative organization founded in 1976, which occurred against the introduction of standards in environmental protection.

In 1977 she was representing the Republican Party in the House of Representatives from Colorado and this was for two terms until 1981 as deputy to.

In 1981, Anne Gorsuch - its later name Burford it was only after her marriage to Robert Burford 1983 - U.S. President Ronald Reagan to the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency ( Environmental Protection Agency) appointed. On March 9, 1983, she had but to resign from the post after allegations against them because of the withholding of documents from the Environmental Compensation Fund ( Superfund ) were collected. After congressional hearings her mistrust was pronounced. These allegations, however, were later overturned. Successor as administrator of the EPA was then William Ruckelshaus, who had already been 1970-1983 first administrator.

After her retirement from the government service, she worked as a lawyer in Colorado again. Her experiences in politics, she published her autobiography in 1986 in Are You Tough Enough? . In 2004, she died aged 62 of cancer. A son from his first marriage, Neil Gorsuch is, Judge of the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals.
