Anne Hathaway (Shakespeare's wife)

Anne Hathaway (* 1556, † August 6, 1623 ) was the wife of William Shakespeare. Shakespeare married at age 18, the eight years older than Anne Hathaway. On May 26, 1583 six months after the marriage, their first child was baptized. They had three children.

From Anne Hathaway to know that she was the daughter of a yeoman and that she has survived her husband by seven years. But the fact that the young Shakespeare left without his wife Stratford- upon- Avon, does not speak for great tenderness in marriage, nor the fact that he bequeathed in his will to her only the second-best bed while he inherited the best of his favorite daughter Susanna.

The wedding question

The following are the available facts: a Worcester document occupies one entry in the episcopal register on 27 November 1582 in which the groom ( Wm Shaxpere ) married a " Annam [ Anne / Anne / Agnes ] Whateley " of Temple Grafton. A document from the following November 28 specifies that a " William Shagspere " and " Anne Hathwey of Stratford " with the consent of the bride celebrated their marriage. The difference between the brides name on two consecutive days was evaluated very differently interpreted by Shakespeare specialists Honigmann a mistake by Mark Eccles as " ecclesiastical error". Frederick Pohl takes the extreme position that Anne Whateley of Temple Grafton was never detected and never existed. Burgess believes that there were two women, Anne Whateley Shakespeare loved her, but Anne Hathaway insisted to be married because of pregnancy.
