Anne McCaffrey

Anne [ Inez ] McCaffrey ( born April 1, 1926 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, † 21 November, 2011 Dragon Hold under the Hill, County Wicklow ) was an American science fiction and fantasy writer. She is best known for her Dragonriders of Pern series.

Life

Anne McCaffrey was born as the daughter of George Herbert McCaffrey and Anne Dorothy McElroy McCaffrey. She had two brothers: Hugh McCaffrey and Kevin Richard McCaffrey. She went to Staunton, Virginia to school and studied until 1947, Slavic languages ​​and literature at Radcliffe College. Subsequently, she worked as an advertising copywriter and studied in the USA and in Dusseldorf singing and opera director. Later she worked at the Opera House in Delaware.

Anne McCaffrey married in 1950 and had three children: Alec Anthony (1952 ), Todd (1956) and George Anne (1959). The marriage was divorced in 1970; after she emigrated to Ireland. There they founded the Dragon Hold Ltd. and raised horses. She lived most recently in County Wicklow in Ireland, and had there several racehorses and a property which is called " Dragon Hold under the Hill".

Anne McCaffrey 1953 published her first short story, but she was really active as a writer until after 1967 also came out her first novel. At the time she started to cycle to the dragons of Pern, to which it owes its worldwide fame.
