Annelies Kupper

Annelies Kupper ( born July 21, 1906 in Glatz, † December 8, 1987 in Hair (near Munich) ) was a German opera singer with the voice soprano.

Life and artistic work

After visiting the Glatzer Upper Lyceum Annelies Kupper studied at the University of Breslau musicology and pedagogy. In 1926 she passed the music teachers exam and then worked as a music teacher at the Ursuline convent school in Breslau. She also studied singing with Hedwig Schmitz- Schweickershausen in Breslau and entered as a concert singer.

At the Wroclaw Opera House in 1935 she gave her debut as a second boy in Mozart's Magic Flute. Following began its steep climb to acclaimed singer: 1937-38 opera Schwerin, 1938-40 National Theatre Weimar, 1940-46 Hamburg State Opera, from 1946 to 1966 Bavarian State Opera in Munich, where she alongside Erika Köth, Rosl Schwaiger, Sari Barabas, Hertha Topper and Marianne Sheikh, to name just a few of many, one of the a lot of acclaimed stars of the Munich opera world and beyond. At the Bayreuth Festival in 1944 she sang Eva in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and 1960, Elsa in Lohengrin.

Annelies Kupper gave guest performances at the relevant European opera houses: 1942 Royal Opera in Stockholm, 1943 Opera Sofia, 1950 and 1952 festivals of Salzburg, in 1951 and 1953, Covent Garden London, 1953 Paris, 1954 Opera Rome, 1958 Barcelona and very frequently at the Vienna State Opera. At the premiere of Richard Strauss's opera Die Liebe der Danae at the Salzburg Festival 1952 she sang the title role with Clemens Krauss conducting.

From 1956 Annelies Kupper worked as a lecturer, two years later she was appointed professor of the master class singing at the Academy of Music in Munich. She was among other things a teacher of the singer Prof. Dr. Alejandro Ramirez ( singer ) and the sopranos Ingrid Haubold, Margaret Baker - Genovesi and Christiane Hampe, Professor of Voice at the University of Music Karlsruhe. In 1959 the singer was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit.

Annelies Kupper was married since 1937 with the music critic, journalist and pianist Dr. Joachim Herrmann, who often accompanied their recitals. Today recalls in hair, where the singer lived and sang in the church choir, the Annelies Kupper - avenue to the celebrated singer.
