Annemie Turtelboom

Annemie Turtelboom ( born November 22, 1967 in Ninove ) is a Belgian politician of the Flemish party Open VLD. She has been by 6 December 2011 Belgian Minister of Justice in the government Di Rupo. Previously, she worked in the governments Leterme I and Van Rompuy first Minister for Migration and Asylum Policy, 17 July 2009 she was Belgian Minister of the Interior, first in the government Van Rompuy, then in the government Leterme II

Life

Turtelboom grew up in Zandberdgen at Geraardsbergen. She studied economics first in Brussels, then at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven ( KULeuven ), Leuven. Until the year 2003, she was responsible for training in marketing at the Katholieke Hogeschool Leuven.

From 2003 to 2007, she represented the party Open VLD in the Federal Parliament, where she became interested in Social Work and Pensions. In the formation of the government Leterme I and then Van Rompuy, she was appointed Minister for Migration and Asylum Policy. There she had to fight hard with the problem of " undocumented " and was due to their rigid attitude of her former cabinet colleague and Minister for Social Integration Marie Arena ( PS) sharply criticized.

In the reshuffle of the government Van Rompuy on 17 July 2009 Turtelboom took over the post of Minister of the Interior from her party colleagues Guido De Padt. Thus she is the first woman who holds this office in Belgium.

Annemie Turtelboom lives in Puurs, where she is a member of the municipal council since 1994 as well. She is married and has two children.
