Annie Peck came from a wealthy family, which allowed her a good education. In 1878 she completed her archeology studies with honors and then went to Europe, where she continued to study in Hannover and Athens. In 1885, she discovered her enthusiasm for mountaineering. The measurement showed a height of 6648 m (Today's update: 6664 m). This left Peck but still the altitude record for an American mountain.

The northern tip of the Huascaran was named in honor of their Erstbesteigerin in 1927 Cumbre Aña Peck.
