Annisteen Allen

Anni Steen Allen ( born November 11, 1920 in Champaign ( Illinois) as Ernestine Letitia Allen; † August 10, 1992 in Harlem, New York City ) was an American blues and rhythm and blues singer. As a soloist she took from 1951 to 1953 for King, Capitol (1954 /55) and Decca (1956 /57) on.

Biography

Allen grew up in Toledo ( Ohio) in 1945 and took first songs on whose interpretation was under the influence of Ella Fitzgerald, "Miss Annie 's Blues " and the standard " Love for Sale ". Then sang in the late 1940s at Big John Greer, Wynonie Harris and Lucky Millinder, with whom she went on tours; 1945/46, published for Syd Nathan's label Queen Records under the title Anni Steen Allen & Her Home Town Boys with members of the Millinder band; it was followed by recordings of songs like " More, More, More ," " Let It Roll ", " Moanin 'The Blues " and " I'll Never Be Free" for Decca Records and RCA Victor. 1953 appeared at the King label " Baby I'm Doin It", an ironic response to the hit song "Baby Do not Do It" by the 5 Royales. Although this single was released in the R & B sales charts at # 8, sat the King label in 1954 the contract discontinued because it was verklagrt for copyright violation when " Baby, I'm Doin It". Allen moved to Capitol and went with Joe Morris and His Blues Cavalcade and The Orioles on tour. In 1955 she brought out the success titled " Fujiyama Mama ," which was soon was covered by Eileen Barton and later by Wanda Jackson. At the end of the decade some single releases for smaller labels like Todd, Warwick and Wig Records created before she retired from the music business and took a job in the management of a hospital. On free weekends, they took in 1961 on an album with King Curtis and his band for the label Tru- Sound, which appeared under the title " Let It Roll " under her birth name Ernestine Allen.
