Annuit cœptis

Annuit coeptis or Annuit Cœptis (Latin: His name is what has begun well ) is one of two mottos on the reverse side of the Seal of the United States, as found, for example, one-dollar notes on the designated as greenback. When combined with the All-Seeing Eye is clear that the saying refers to the triune God. The other motto is Novus ordo seclorum (Latin: "A new order of the ages ").

" Annuit coeptis " is a modification of a verse from Virgil's Aeneid. It says in verse 625 of the ninth book ". Iuppiter omnipotens, audacibus annue coeptis " ( "Almighty Jupiter, hot boldly Started well. " ) With these words, Ascanius, son of Aeneas begins his prayer before a battle against the Rutulians.
