Anode ray

Canal rays is a historical name for positively charged ion radiation.

Canal rays have been named by the first method of their production: by an electric field generated in a dilute gas and the foraminous cathode towards accelerated ions pass through these holes ( " channels") due to its inertia through and can behind the cathode based their luminous phenomena are detected. This channel beam emitting apparatus is also called Geissler tube. It is an ion source.

The canal rays were discovered in 1886 by Eugen Goldstein.
